MIGRATION AND HEALTH

BUA-Project

Inspired By Diversity & Academics

Health and access to healthcare are fundamental human rights. However, in Germany, these rights are often denied to migrant populations. In 2018, the United Nations raised concerns about Germany’s migration policies. Migrants face structural barriers to healthcare, exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the urgent need to address their health needs. These needs are deeply tied to social and cultural structures, requiring an interdisciplinary approach that combines medicine, global health, sociology, political and cultural studies, and collaboration with civil society, political actors, and NGOs.
Our research team, composed of scientists from Humboldt University, Free University, and Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin, focuses on migration and health with a special emphasis on gender and intersectionality. We investigate healthcare access, unmet needs of marginalized migrant groups, and more. Ultimately, we aim to establish a knowledge platform to integrate findings into social practice and foster meaningful exchange.
